Four days in Lisbon gives a group the old city on foot, Belém's monuments and pastries, a full day among the palaces of Sintra and three good nights out. The pace is balanced: one big sight in the morning, a long lunch, and free evenings in Alfama and Bairro Alto. Expect to spend around €260 per person on tickets, food, drinks and transport, before flights and accommodation.

When to go
Lisbon works all year. March to June and September to October are the sweet spot: warm, bright and less crowded. July and August are hot and busy; winter is mild but rainier, and some days in Sintra are misty.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Pena Palace worth €45?
It depends on the group. The park ticket (€12) already gives you the gardens, the terraces and the famous view of the coloured palace; the full ticket adds the furnished rooms with a fixed entry time. Many groups are happy with the park.
Do we need a car for Sintra?
No. The train from Rossio takes about 40 minutes, and bus 434 links the station, the old town and the hilltop palaces. Parking in Sintra is difficult.
What is the best area to stay for a group?
Baixa and Chiado: central, flat, close to the nightlife without being in the middle of it, and next to the Sintra trains.
