7 days in Split and the islands: a Croatia itinerary for friends

A week based between Split and Hvar gives a group Roman history, waterfalls, island beaches and some of the best nightlife on the Adriatic, all linked by catamarans that take an hour or less. Two nights in Split, three on Hvar, a day on Brač and a last night back in Split keeps the packing to a minimum. On the ground, count on roughly €650 per person for boats, tickets, food and drinks, before flights and accommodation.

When to go

June and September are the best months: warm sea, every boat running and fewer people than in July and August, when prices and crowds peak. Most catamarans and island tours run from May to mid October; in winter the islands are very quiet.

Fly into Split (SPU) at Kaštela, then the airport shuttle bus to the ferry port in about 30 minutes

Split has direct flights from much of Europe in summer. Between the islands, catamarans from Jadrolinija, Kapetan Luka and TP Line cover every hop in this plan; book summer seats a few days ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Can you swim at Krka National Park?

No. Swimming at Skradinski buk has been banned since 2021 to protect the falls. Plan to swim on the islands instead.

How do we get between Split, Hvar and Brač?

By catamaran. Split to Hvar town takes about an hour (around €25 in summer); Hvar to Bol and Bol to Split are shorter seasonal routes that run once or twice a day, so check the timetable for your dates.

Is the Blue Cave always open?

Only when the sea is calm enough for the small boats to enter. Tours tell you in the morning; keep the boat day flexible within the week.
